How To: Remove Makeup Stains

Aquiring makeup stains on your clothing seems to come with the territory of getting dressed…or UNdressed.  We’re sure you think it’s easier to toss your shirt off and  ”deal with it” later but tossing it in the hamper for next weeks wash will only soil your goods and require you to purchase another.

All forms of cleaners won’t clean every stain. Oil-based and non-oil based makeups, will respond differently to different solutions; this is why it’s important to tackle it upon notice.

Here is what you will need handy:

  • Paper towel
  • Sponge
  • Dish soap
  • Baby wipes
  • Liquid detergent
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Toothbrush
  • WD-40 or lighter fluid

Here’s what you should do:

  • If the stain is fresh, blot off any excess or caked-on make-up with a paper towel. Make sure it is completely gone after attempting to remove it. It will be more difficult to remove a set-in, dried out stain.

  • Rub the area with a wet rag on any area, especially if the make-up is non-oil based (I know you may not know the difference). Dry off with a fan or blow dryer. Use soap and water to remove mascara and eye-liner from clothes. Use baby wipes for the stubborn stains.

  • Use liquid detergent to rub the spot and rinse with water. Let  this dry.

  • Sprinkle baking soda on the spot. Use an old tooth brush to brush the stain. Rinse off and let dry.

I know, you’re thinking ‘THIS IS TOO MUCH’ but I assure you that your favovorite shirt is worth it!
